Following the success of her internationally acclaimed series Modern Lovers in 1990, photographer Bettina Rheims continued making images with her friend Kim Harlow, a favorite subject in the show. A cabaret dancer and frequent muse of Rheims, Kim considered the multiplicities and implications of her identity as an HIV postive trans woman during the AIDS crisis. Kim eventually succumbed to the disease herself, passing away in 1993 — this previously confidential collection of images stands as a touching tribute to a lost friend and a beautiful portrait of modern femininity.
